Why
Study the Bible?

Let
the Bible speak for itself.

Show you what it claims about itself because isn't it great to know what you
believe & know why?
¹
A
lot of people believe the Bible is true, they don't know why and they
couldn't show you why they believe it.
¹
This is going to help you to know why you believe or just deepen your
convictions about the Bible. We all need a standard for our lives and what
that standard should be.
¹
What are some standards in the world today?
What would life be without standards? Ruler, grades, measuring cup, stop
lights, etc.
Scripture = Word
(the word Bible is never used in the Bible)
2 Timothy
3:14-17
1. Able to make
you wise for salvation . Bible tells you how to be saved. . Saved from hell,
sin, death.

If
person wants to know how to be saved they can find answer in the Bible.
2. All Scripture
¹
Whole Bible
¹
Can't pick and choose what to obey.
3. God'-breathed
¹
From the mouth of God. . Bible is God's word.
4. Useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. . If something
is useful to us, we don't set aside:

We
don't naturally know how to be righteous, we have to be trained.
5. Thoroughly
equipped
¹
Equipped enough to do good.
¹
Need nothing more to live for God.
Questions:
What things are
useful to you in your life? (Car, keys, food)
Do you use them
daily?
If there was one
book that could teach you everything you need to know for your life, your
marriage, raising your children and get you to heaven, would you sit it in a
corner and let it gather dust or would you drink it in like life giving
water?
2 Peter
1:19-21
1. Above all

2. No prophecy
of scripture.........
It's
all from God, man did not write the Bible.
Pay
attention to it.
Until
the day dawns (can be confusing at first, stick with it! You will get it!)
Hebrews
4:12-13
1. Word is living
and active

Bible is relevant

Applies to today.
Not a2000-year-old obsolete book.
2. Double edged
sword... .it judge's thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
A double-edged
sword was used in Roman battles; it was sharp on both sides so it went in
and straight to the heart. The Bible is quick, precise right to the heart of
the matter. God does not mess around; He gives it to you straight. Don't you
hate when people beat around the but God makes it plain.

Bible judges
heart (innocent/quilty, etc.).

Bible will
produce reaction and changes when studied.
3. Nothing in all
creation is hidden... everything uncovered and laid bare.

God
sees everything.
4. To whom we
must give an account. . Must explain actions.

All must face
God.
John 8:31-32
1. ... .Jews who had believed him.

“Belief” is not
enough.
¹
Belief requires a
corresponding action that confirms it. (go to Luke 10:28)
2. Hold to my teaching...

Not
disciple if you don't obey Jesus' teaching, Bible.
3. Then you will know the truth

Must
hold on to it to know the truth
¹
People who say
they need to know if it's true before they follow have order mixed up. .
Jesus is saying,
try and see....
¹
No
excuses.
Comment:
The only way you are going to know if this will work is to try it. Isn't it
worth taking a chance for a
couple of weeks? It won't let you down. See the power of the word of God.
Mark 7:
1-13
1. How does Jesus feel about traditions? Pharisees (religious leaders had
many traditions, they knew the word
of
God. Too many traditions block you from seeing and obeying a command

What are some of
the traditions in your life?
¹
If
your tradition keeps you from obeying a command what should you do? Do with
the Bible. Do you
agree
with that?
2. Worship
with lips but hearts far from me.
¹
Lip
service - no heart.
¹
Vain worship,
useless, nullifies the word of God (make it worthless).
3. Let go of the
commands of God... holding on to the traditions of men.
¹
Nothing wrong
with traditions per se.
¹
Problem holding
to them over the Bible.
¹
People
forget why they do things.
John 12:47-48
There is a judge... .that very word I spoke will condemn you. God will use
Bible as standard on last day.
¹
No surprises.
¹
Important
that we know Bible for ourselves.
Acts
17:11
God is calling eagerness and examining the Scriptures daily, noble.

Berean challenge-
Read Bible everyday!
¹
Follow Bible, not
person.
Question: Are you willing to use the Bible as the standard for your
life? What will you do from
now on?
If the answer is yes, then will read the Bible everyday and make decisions
based on God's words not your
feelings.
Read book of John (take notes and answer these questions)
What do I learn about Jesus?
What did I learn about yourself?
How can you try that today?

Meditate on God's word, eat it, breath it, it will swell up inside of you as
life giving water, you will never thirst
again.
Let those you study with know that God loves them and that they are precious
and honored in God's
sight.
